This five-session course will introduce you to how to use the Internet in a safe and private way. With identify theft and online scams as well as data harvesting a major concern, it is important people know how to navigate the dangers on the internet and keep themselves safe and private.
This course will include the following:
- best privacy focused services online to use
- browser compartmentalisation
- Wi-Fi security on your home network
- how to spot phishing scams and fake websites
- why do we have cookies and Captcha’s on the Internet
- how to create safe passwords and using a password vault
- open-source software to protect your privacy online and offline
- how to create a privacy focused email account
- how to use proxy emails to prevent spam
- a demonstration on Linux, a free privacy focused operating system.
And so much more.
There are no formal entry requirements to join this course.
Classes are three hours long, held over five weeks.
Your progress will be assessed by your course tutor through participation in group discussions and activities.
