For you if you want to develop an understanding of psychological approaches which underpin professional practice.
Units include:
- application of psychological approaches
- research methods
- diagnosing and treating disorders
- understanding and explaining behaviours and lifestyle choices which affect health and wellbeing.
Applied psychology uses foundation theories which will allow you to consider explanations for behaviours such as aggression, mental health disorders, and health-related lifestyle choices. You will plan and carry out research, evaluating the strengths and limitations of conducting psychological studies.
Volunteering or a work experience placement is a positive addition to your CV. You could also undertake an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) which allows you to pursue your own research topic.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English language.
You will have a 9.55am start, one lesson in the morning, one in the afternoon and a guaranteed 4pm finish. You will also have at least one morning and one afternoon per week free for private study.
Assessments will comprise 60% personal investigation and 40% externally set practical exam. Your coursework is internally assessed and externally moderated.
You could progress to a variety of occupations and careers within health and social care, including nursing, social work and counselling.
