For new entrants into the industry or students progressing from the Level 1 Diploma. The course is designed to give you the fundamental knowledge and skill set to become a professional plumber. This course is also popular with existing workers wishing to gain recognised qualifications.
Units include:
- safe working practices
- communicating with others within building services
- environmental protection measures
- scientific principles within building services
- site preparation and pipework fabrication techniques for domestic plumbing and heating
- domestic hot and cold-water system installation and maintenance
- central heating system installation and maintenance
- domestic rainwater system installation and maintenance
- above ground drainage system installation and maintenance.
You will complete a minimum of 30 hours work experience within the industry. You will also take part in college-based projects, visit Portsmouth’s central water treatment plant and attend industry trade shows. Manufacturers and industry specialists often visit the College to showcase the latest developments in plumbing and environmental technology.
You will need five GCSEs grade 4 or above, including maths, English and a science. Those with prior industry experience will also be considered.
This course is a one-year course. You will be required to attend two full days for 34 weeks, plus two block weeks for practical assessment to be arranged with your tutor. Maximum attendance is required to ensure success.
You will learn in our well-equipped workshops, backed up by classroom sessions, which will help to underpin your knowledge of the subject. Following the completion of each unit you will take an on-line examination.
You could progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing, an apprenticeship or into employment.
