For those students who have already completed the Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating or have been working in the industry previously and can demonstrate their skills and knowledge.
Units include:
- preparation of surfaces
- painting complex areas
- hanging papers to walls and ceilings
- decorative effects (marbling/graining)
- planning your work
- access equipment (tower, ladder, trestles, steps and low-level platforms).
You will complete a minimum of 30 hours of on-the-job experience within the industry. You will have the opportunity to work on many live projects including community and charitable projects and benefit from site visits, industry talks and demonstrations from experts. You will also have an opportunity to take part in competitions, including WorldSkills and Johnstone's Paint Decorator of the Year.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including maths and English, plus a Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating. Those with prior industry experience will also be considered.
Attendance is usually two/three days a week from 9am-4.30pm. A high level of attendance is essential for successful achievement.
You will be continually assessed, completing a variety of practical assignments and in class assessments. You will also complete two online exams. You will log your learning journey in a diploma portfolio folder.
You could progress on to an apprenticeship or go straight into employment.
