This course is perfect for you if you want to explore the changes taking place in society and their impacts. This could be the ideal subject if you enjoy learning about people and social situations.
Units include:
- concepts of culture
- contemporary family
- education
- methods of research
- crime and deviance
- social inequality.
Sociology gives you the opportunity to develop a range of skills which are both subject-specific and transferable. Some of the main transferable skills are strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to understand complex ideas and apply these to situations, research and analytical skills, and the ability to use evidence and logic to construct a good argument.
Volunteering or a work experience placement is a positive addition to your CV. You could also undertake an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) which allows you to pursue your own research topic.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language.
You will have a 9.55am start, one lesson in the morning, one in the afternoon and a guaranteed 4pm finish. You will also have at least one morning and one afternoon per week free for private study.
You will take three exams, which you will sit at the end of your second year.
You could progress to a variety of occupations and careers within health and social care, including nursing, social work and counselling.
